Try taking an inventory of how many business promises you make on a daily basis.
Completing a daily inventory, for even a week, will help you manage client expectations.
There’s nothing wrong with promising your clients excellent customer service or even going above and beyond the call of duty.
But there’s also something to be said for just doing your job and doing it to the best of your abilities, and asking them for some level of follow-up or accountability when it comes to taking care of problems that you are not really trained to deal with.
So try this, next time you’re in a position where you’d like to promise someone something, instead put them into a position of accountability and ask them to follow up with you.
Just doing this little bit will free up more of your time and your energy to do the things you’re best at and find others whom you can help with your specific services.
Try it at home, too.
