Three Priceless Concepts from the Underground X Online Seminar

If you didn’t get a chance to attend the Underground X in New Orleans last week, you missed out on some priceless concepts and invaluable information.  Yanik Silver and AJ Roberts put on a world-class event that was jam-packed with information.

In fact, there was so much information that it felt like we were getting hit with a firehose…

I’d like to share a concepts I really enjoyed learning more about – direct from some of the world’s top online experts – then I’ll spend more time over the next week going over concepts and the people who implement them in greater detail:

The Extreme Value of Facebook Advertising – When you have a specific niche’ market (and you should have if you want to sell high-end products and services), Facebook provides one of the best advertising bargains, if you know how to use them. Understanding your market, learning Facebook’s rules and studying analytics are key elements of a successful campaign.

Catchy Designs Aren’t Always Effective Designs – There’s a difference between “looking good” and “working good.”  Excuse my grammar, I couldn’t help it!  The reality is that too many designers focus their attention on the aesthetics, yet don’t spend any time testing and refining their ads.  Remember, people are out there looking for what you have to offer – it’s really a matter of understanding your market and where they hang out online.  Facebook’s advertising platform allows you to do just that – market to people who like similar products, services and people as your ideal prospects.

Speaking of design… Clay Collins of LeadPages actually won the competition for best presenter as he explained the value of his company, LeadPages.   LeadPages provides optimized landing pages with a variety of template options.  Using LeadPages assures you of having quick loads (start paying attention to how many times you back out of a Facebook ad because it takes more than 1.5 seconds to load), pages with attractive and effective opt-ins, and the ability to view analytics in one place.  If you get a chance, give Clay a Google!

That’s a wrap-up of three quick takeaways I talked about when I spoke with my friend Eric Weidl of Intersites on Tuesday.  He seemed to find them valuable, so I thought I would share my summary with you as well.

Why Can’t I Achieve My Goals?

Here we are, six weeks into the new year and you’re probably starting to lose steam on your new year’s resolution.

Have you ever wondered, “Why can’t I achieve my goals?”

Lee Brower, Professional coach and author of The Brower Quadrant, has summarized a very powerful concept that has applications when it comes to goal development and achievement.

This concept has deep roots and can be applied to practice, prayer, manifestation and meditation.

How To Achieve Your Goals With a Powerful “WHY?”

Upon first read, you probably won’t find his article very impressive, but it falls into the category of “profoundly simple” – it’s likely a very subtle change in the way you currently ask for things in your life.

Right now, your requests, wishes, dreams and maybe even prayers – probably fall into one or more of these descriptions –

  • External – “Please don’t let it rain on my wedding day.”
  • Event based – “I want to run a marathon”
  • Hope based – “I hope I can get my book published.”
  • If-then based – “When my kids get back in school, then I’ll have more time for myself.”

These all have one thing in common – they’re totally out of our control.

By developing goals that “get past” the event or the scenario that you can’t control and asking yourself how you want the result to look and feel for you, you’ll better be able to define success in a more controllable way.

It will also be more clear to you what steps you need to take to get to that point.

Think about Lee’s article and consider setting a time in one week to read it again.  I’m happy to discuss it with you if you contact me.

Is Lasik Worth It? – Seeing Better – vs – Looking in the Right Places

Is Lasik Worth It?

A few months ago, I was with a group of Entrepreneurs at my friend Matthew’s shop.  He was demonstrating some of the Google technology his team has implemented since our August event.

I noticed he was having a hard time seeing the monitor from across the room.

I don’t think anyone noticed, mostly because it didn’t bother him a bit.

A few times he asked us to read small print to him.   Once he stepped closer to the screen and squinted.  It really didn’t cause him any pain.

I was wondering “Why hasn’t this guy gotten Lasik?”

I remember when I got Lasik.

It wasn’t like getting glasses.  You could try on a pair of glasses and see if they helped.

It wasn’t like trying a pair of contacts.  Way more scary, but you could still take them out.

Nope…

It was a scary fucking thing that you couldn’t undo, but luckily I had a bad enough experience with contacts that I knew I had to take action.

I don’t shop for things… I buy things.

I had an assessment at 4:30 that afternoon and by 4:30 the next day I had 20/20 vision.

It’s a damned good thing I rushed into it, too.

If I had seen what they were going to do to my eye (think tiny can opener), I would have put it off forever.

I had no idea what it was like to have clear vision with no effort.

I can’t point to a single time when it’s resulted in tangible financial gain for me, but I can’t begin to list all the times it’s come in handy.

I know it won’t last forever, but it sure has been fun.

I can’t believe I got it that cheap.

I can’t believe I don’t have to keep paying for it as long as I get to experience life like this.

The crazy thing is, I would literally have never done had I watched a single YouTube video about it.

It looked scary as hell, but it didn’t hurt a bit in real life.
